What We Collect

Account & Authentication Data

When you sign in using Google, we receive limited profile information from Google, which may include:

• Your full name, first name, and last name
• Your email address and email verification status
• Your profile picture
• Your language/locale preference
• A unique account identifier

This information is stored in our database to identify you within the site, display your profile, and power current and future personalized features (such as quiz progress, game scores, leaderboard participation, saved content, comments, votes, and polls). Your session is stored as an encrypted JWT (JSON Web Token) cookie in your browser. When you sign out, your session cookie is cleared.

Profile customization: you may choose a custom nickname and select a preset avatar from a built-in gallery (via the first-time onboarding prompt or the Settings page). Your chosen nickname and avatar selection are stored on your account in our database and replace the name and picture received from Google for display purposes within the site. Nicknames must follow our content rules (no profanity, harassment, or impersonation) and are checked for uniqueness across all users.

Public profile elements: when you submit a score to any of our arcade-game leaderboards (currently Jumpy Nakama, Manga Stack, and Anime Memory Match), your display name and avatar become publicly visible to all visitors as part of the leaderboard. The display name shown is your chosen nickname (or, if you have not customized one, the name received from Google), and the avatar shown is your selected preset avatar (or, if you have not customized one, the profile picture received from Google). If you do not want this information shown publicly, do not submit scores.

How We Use This Data

We use this data to optimize content delivery, measure engagement, provide more relevant ads, and enable features that require authentication — including quiz progress tracking, game scores and leaderboard participation, saved content, comments, votes, and polls. This helps support the growth of Anime Facts 101 while keeping content free for visitors.

Personal Information

Outside of the profile data received when you sign in via a third-party provider (described above), we do not collect additional personally identifiable information unless you explicitly provide it, such as through direct contact via email or future forms.

Third-Party Services

This site uses third-party platforms including:

• Google AdSense: to show personalized ads
• Mediavine Grow: lightweight engagement / following widget loaded on every page
• Google Analytics 4: anonymous traffic and engagement measurement
• Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights: privacy-friendly visitor and Core Web Vitals measurement for the site’s hosting platform
• YouTube Embeds: for video content
• Facebook Embeds: used to display Facebook reels on the reels pages
• Supabase: used to store user profile data, quiz progress (streak, answer history), and game scores / leaderboard entries for authenticated users
• Google OAuth: for user sign-in authentication
• Cloudinary: image content delivery network used to serve fact images, ranking thumbnails, and the anime wallpapers gallery (preview images and downloadable resolutions)

These services may collect their own data in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
